Nitefive Redesign
I’ve owned the nitefive.com domain for a long … long time. It was actually one of my first domain purchases ever, and I was inspired to create a Maxim-style website dedicated to partying and all that other good stuff. I built my first custom content management system (CMS) on nitefive, which incorporated automatic linking, tag clouds, streamlined image management, etc. However, my single ASP-driven aspirations weren’t enough to get the site any better than a mere blogging platform (without, sadly, a lot of the nifty blog features - I only had a few hours to build this thing!)
So, after some consideration, I’ve decided I’m going to redesign nitefive.com using a similar theme - with a twist. The new nitefive.com will be a website for eco-conscious party people. People that are interested in kicking back and having fun on a Friday night, but also trying to find ways to party that aren’t so harmful to the environment. Ever think about how many resources the average bar, restaurant, or club consumes? Think blasting music systems, lighting systems, water consumption, etc. . . These places are monsters! Not to mention that when people go out to party, ecological impact is usually the last thing on their mind. So I want to create a site that provides useful information on what bars and clubs might be worth a look because the owners care about the environment. Will it pan out? Who knows. I’ve done ZERO market research on this one. Consider this a gut-instinct and a “if you build it, will they come?” scenario. In the meantime, I’m cracking my knuckles and getting to work on tweaking a completely custom Wordpress installation that I have in mind, inspired by the new Yahoo Shine website and gliving.tv. Stay tuned.
